Adios to Alex

Last night a collection of friends met in Berkeley to eat some food, grab some drinks and just generally enjoy each others company.

People included: Me, Billy, Nathaniel, Alex, Chris, Keyan, Nicole, Shelley, Audrey, Natalie, Stephanie, Rob, Rob's friend, Ryan, Pablo, Vanessa, Amber and two of Amber's friends.

Billy and I arrived at Manny's tap Room on Telegraph at 5:30. Most people were late so He, Nathaniel and I ordered food around 6:15 unwilling to indulge their lateness. Others started to trickle in until we had about 15 people sitting around the table...

At the second bar some people had left and others showed up so our number remained fairly consistent. A round of shots were had and some beers were drank but the evening started to mellow out. After Blake's Pablo and Vanessa decided to go home which is what I really felt like doing also. So after hugging goodbye to Shelley, Natalie, Audrey, Amber and Chris I took my leave of the outing around 10:30.

I guess Shelley was flirting with Chris but Amber go hammered (I think on purpose) so that Chris had to drive her home in her car... forcing him to spend the night and she dropped him back of in Pleasant Hill this morning. Eh... the girl goes for what she wants. But Chris seems really into this girl he met last week so she wasn't very successful. Oh well.

Nathaniel and I took a walk back to his house and he refused to stop and smell the flowers with me (literally) citing trespassing as the reason. Ha!

It was a good night all in all and I took Nathaniel out to breakfast the next morning to Mama's Royal Cafe in Oakland. He seemed to like it and said he will bring his Mom there someday. We had breakfast relatively late because of some overindulgent cuddling... literally cuddling. It's probably the last time we will be able to do that before I leave.

If I wasn't leaving in 4 days I would probably have asked Nathaniel to be my boyfriend last night or this morning. He gets along well with all of my friends that he has met... we have books, travel, humor a love of good beer and food in common... and we can just hang out. It's really nice to just relax and be around him.

Ryan was giving me a pep talk last night saying that I probably won't meet anyone in Mexico and that he (Ryan) has gone 8 months without dating before so it's totally probable that Nathaniel will be single when I come back.

But I just keep thinking about how Luke strung me along for three months last summer (probably unmaliciously) sending me e-mails and telling me how much he missed me blahblahblah responding to me e-mails of homesickness and such but when I got back he had already started banging Jennifer and I found out by discovering a handcuff key in his pocket.

If he had been honest with me when he first met Jen we probably could have still been friends. But, it was all for the best. He was fun but I didn't have that much respect for him in a lot of ways.

I think after dinner tomorrow I need to have the talk with Nathaniel. I know I am going to communicate with him during the following months but I want him to be honest with me if he meets someone. Coming back and picking up where we are leaving off would be as awesome as coming home and having great expectations deflated would be awful.
